Cover Supervisors Required!

Yorkshire Education are currently recruiting for a number of cover supervisors to work in secondary schools in York, Selby, Howden and Goole.

Working as a Cover Supervisor can be extremely rewarding. The Cover Supervisor’s main job is to manage a classroom, ensuring that students remain on task with the work they have been set by an absent teacher.

Cover Supervisor jobs offer a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to gain teaching and classroom experience before completing a PGCE.

You can work as much or as little as you like, it's completely up to you. Whether you are looking for the occasional day, a few days every week, we may well have an opportunity for you.

Qualifications required:

  • Degree as a minimum educational requirement

  • Must have recent and relevant experience working with secondary aged pupils in an educational setting

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Covering lessons in the absence of the timetabled teacher

  • Supervising the delivery of the cover work by effectively communicating the work set to students

  • Managing the behaviour of pupils whilst they are undertaking set work to ensure a positive learning environment

  • Dealing with any intermediate problems or emergencies in accordance with school policy and procedures

  • Reporting back as appropriate, using the schools standard procedures on the behaviour of pupils during the class and any issues arising.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Behaviour management skills

  • Highly adaptable and flexible

  • Be professional and punctual at all times

  • Be confident

  • Organisational skills

  • Ability to manage groups of children and cope with challenging behaviour

  • The ability to work as part of a team

  • Good reading, writing and numeracy skills
