Thank you to all the teachers who attended our Secondary and Primary CPD session on Tuesday and Wednesday and a huge thanks to Pathfinder Teaching School Alliance for organising this session.
We had a fantastic turnout of people who attended the CPD evenings at Archbishop Holgates School. The CPD sessions which was chosen by our teachers and support staff were very popular and received excellent feedback.
The Secondary CPD session which was on Talk Less Teaching included the following things:
Looked at teacher / student ratios of who talks more in the classroom. Results were quite shocking – 95:5 on average
Looked at effective teaching and learning activities to ensure the pupils work as hard as the teacher in the classroom and to promote pupil’s speaking
Completed activities as if we were the pupils e.g. string me along - extremely engaging, learnt so much in a such a short space of time which is great for showing progress in lessons
Very easy to adapt these activities in the classroom to suit primary as well as secondary pupils
The Primary CPD session which was on Key Stage 1 and 2 Writing included the following things:
Looked at National Curriculum and the statutory guidelines set out for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Writing
Looked at recent developments in assessment writing and reminders of key points leading to independent writing
Looked at spelling strategies
Looked at examples of students writing and how best to assess them against the criteria given
We are very grateful to be working with Pathfinder Teaching School Alliance. This is a fantastic opportunity for our supply teachers to receive CPD that otherwise would not be available to them. We believe our teachers deserve the training that teachers employed permanently would benefit from.
