Last nights CPD 'Understanding pupils with Autism'

Thank you to all the teachers who attended the CPD last night and a huge thanks to Pathfinder Teaching School Alliance for putting on this session.

The CPD evening which was held at Archbishop Holgates School was a great success. It was hugely engaging and received positive feedback from all. One teacher said, “I really enjoyed it, Lucy really knew her stuff and gave me great ideas for class resources.”

The twilight session was ‘Understanding pupils with Autism’ and was delivered by Lucy Battersby the Head of ERP at Haxby Road Primary Academy. The session included what Autism is and how many people have Autism. They looked at the four key areas of difference which are; Interacting, Processing Information, Sensory Processing and Communication. Lucy discussed top tips with working alongside a child with Autism and ways to deal with them if they have an Autism meltdown. Everyone who attended were set activities such as completing a task plan and creating a social story which are useful methods to help keep Autistic children engaged.

We are very grateful to be working with Pathfinder Teaching School Alliance. This is a fantastic opportunity for our supply teachers to receive CPD that otherwise would not be available to them. We believe our teachers deserve the training that teachers employed permanently would benefit from.

We are already looking forward to the next CPD session tonight which is for primary and secondary which is on Non-fiction. If you haven’t booked onto this or you’re wanting more information regarding the CPD we offer, make sure you get in touch with us.
