The teaching assistant role:
To support individual pupils with their learning in the classroom.

To liaise with the classroom teacher in order to deliver interventions for specific pupils.

Experience in a classroom as a teaching assistant can lead to a range of opportunities to work within education. It is a great way to learn from experienced professionals and see first-hand how to manage and coordinate a classroom of children if you are interested in going into a career in teaching.
As a teaching assistant, there is an opportunity to specialise in specific areas, such as SEND. These are pupils with special educational needs or disabilities and will often involve working one to one. SEND covers a wide range of needs so increasing your experience will benefit you if you are looking to focus your skills in a specific area.
